He has also shared a stage with many distinguished artistes including Tim O’Brien, Roger McGuinn, Kate Campbell, Gene Parsons, and Clive Gregson. His holler til dawn CD, released in 2002, met with widespread critical acclaim, and boasted some high profile contributors such as folk/rock legend Rab Noakes, highly regarded singers Kathy Stewart and Cathryn Craig, and ex Byrds and Flying Burrito Bros member Gene Parsons. The record helped enhance Hinshelwood’s reputation as a writer and singer of finely crafted country influenced songs, and established him as one of Scotland’s foremost exponents of Americana / roots music. In 2006 Hinshelwood formed the City Sinners to perform a show based on the life and music of the late Gram Parsons. In addition to some of the finest Country/ Americana players in Scotland, the band recruited vocalist Sandra Gellatly, who had worked as a singer and actor in her native Canada before moving to Scotland in 2001. Gellatly and Hinshelwood formed an immediate musical bond, and made the decision to perform and record together as a duo, as well as continuing their work with the Sinners. The result of this collaboration is Shattered Pleasures which is scheduled for release in August 2009. Nine original compositions are featured, plus covers of songs by Julie Miller, ex Byrd Gene Clark, and David Scott of the Pearlfishers. In addition to the other members of the City Sinners - Iain Barbour (guitar), Tim Clarke (bass), Dick Drake (drums), and Malcolm McMaster (pedal steel), there are contributions from renowned folk songwriter Alasdair Robertson (accordion), top session player Colin MacFarlane (lap steel, dobro), and one of Scotland’s best kept secrets, ace guitarist Tim Black , who also co produced the recording with Hinshelwood.
